San Juan: River Resort of San Juan, Abra
Since Abra River has many tributaries, it is often been utilized as river resort. One of the towns that benefited this kind of tourism is San Juan, a quaint, little municipality situated at the northernmost part of Abra.
The makeshift huts made by the locals are commonly sights to see along the river during summer. They are available for vacationers who want to enjoy eating while relaxing to the view and sound of the stream. Children will enjoy the gentle current and shallowness of the river especially summer. Also, most of the huts have videoke available for rent – a perfect place to hit the high notes without disturbing the neighborhood, he he. For around 200 pesos or more, you can rent one of those cottages and enjoy the rustic scenery of San Juan.
When the rainy (typhoon) season comes where the river becomes scary, it’s time for the huts to be disassembled.
From Bangued, ride a jeepney bound to San Juan. A 27-kilometer ride should cost more or less 50 pesos. Expect one way bridges along the way.
