San Jose: Ultimate Guide to Grace Island Resort
Grace Island Resort is an island resort located in Buri Island of Brgy. Ambulong in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro. This unique resort has an array of floating cottages where one can feel the soothing breeze of the sea and a one of a kind experience of becoming one with nature. Going to one of the cottages by a narrow bamboo bridge that connects them is a thrilling experience, just be careful.
It was already featured in several travel shows, blog sites, and other news outlets. Before it rose to fame, it was already visited several times by the flock. Here’s a quick guide whenever you’re planning to visit the so-called “Maldives of the Philippines.”

The floating cottages of the island makes the resort unique (Grace Island Resort, San Jose, Occidental Mindoro)
ABOUT THE RESORT
Grace Island Resort is one of Occidental Mindoro’s premier resorts. It is surrounded by a much larger island of Ambulong. From a simple retreat center, it was developed and evolved into a frequently-visited resort in San Jose.
The resort is very appropriate to adopt the name Grace Island because it is blessed with abundant marine life, pristine and clear waters, and unparalleled landscape and scenery.
It is represented by a unique and majestic rock with a lone tree on it. “The Lininob Rock” as what the San Joseños call it, symbolizes life and beauty of the island.
The resort takes pride in having floating cottages. It also has a wide array of activities perfect for individuals, families, and other group gatherings.
Guests can stroll or bike around the island to appreciate its beauty and splendor. For those having retreats, our chapel at the hilltop allows for meditation. And for the more adventurous ones, motorized and non-motorized water activities will surely keep the fun and adrenaline pumping.
HOW TO GET THERE
- BY AIR
Take a 45-minute flight from Manila to San Jose. From San Jose Airport there is a 5-minute ride to Aroma Beach Booking Office where the boat awaits.

Going there is an adventure in itself… especially during Habagat season (Grace Island Resort, San Jose, Occidental Mindoro)
- BY LAND AND SEA (Roro)
From Cubao, take the bus bound for San Jose, Occidental Mindoro via Batangas Port either to Abra de Ilog or to Calapan City port. Both ports are linked by their respective provincial highway to San Jose. The bus ride takes 12 hours of travel.
Note: The shallow waters of San Jose make its port unsuitable for docking of large ships. Instead, ships dock at the ports of Abra de Ilog and Calapan. From there is an additional 6 to 8 hours of land travel before reaching San Jose.
Update: Partas Bus Line has just started operating in Mindoro Island with trips departing every four hours. Deluxe fare costs PhP1,100.
- FROM AROMA BEACH/CAMINAWIT PORT
Guest can bound for Grace Island Resort via an approximate one-and-a-half hour boat ride from Aroma Beach or Caminawit Port. Along the way, guests can enjoy the breathtaking views of the sea and landscape.
